Read the risks/benefits section on the informed consent document very carefully and ask questions!
Discuss the trial protocol with your doctor.
Consider the drug-related risks vs. the procedural risks, as well as the long term vs. the short term risks. (Trials in later phases are probably safer than trials in earlier phases.)
Honestly assess your own comfort levels with risk and uncertainty.
Remember, you can always quit the trial if you change your mind about the risks involved.
